What is the Dehang Miao Village and Fenghuang 5-day tour?
It is a five-day private tour. In Zhangjiajie you see the Forest Park and Tianmen Mountain; then you go south into Xiangxi to sleep a night in Dehang Miao Village, learn crafts from the villagers, walk the cliff walkway at Aizhai Bridge and finish in Fenghuang Ancient Town. The route covers three national 5A scenic areas.
The three national 5A scenic areas on this route are Wulingyuan–Tianmen, Aizhai–Shibadong–Dehang Grand Canyon, and Fenghuang Ancient Town. The tour suits travellers who want more than Zhangjiajie’s mountains: the Miao villages, canyons and old river town of western Hunan as well. For our other routes in the area, see all our Zhangjiajie tours.
Why we built this route
Most visitors to Zhangjiajie see the mountains; far fewer go on to the Miao villages and canyons of Xiangxi. We put Dehang in the middle of the trip, and not as a quick look on the way past. You sleep inside the canyon, and the next morning you work with your hands in the village: you play the drum rhythm, make the tofu and weave the bamboo yourself, and the weaving comes home with you. One guide looks after your group for the whole trip, so each day’s pace follows your group’s interests and energy.

If you would rather have more days in Zhangjiajie and add Furong Town, see our 7-day Zhangjiajie and Fenghuang private tour.

What is Dehang?
Dehang is a Miao village in a canyon in Xiangxi, western Hunan, within the Aizhai–Shibadong–Dehang Grand Canyon scenic area. On this tour you spend a night there, join the villagers for a morning of drumming, tofu making and bamboo weaving, and then walk to Liusha Waterfall.
Is five days enough? Can we add a day?
Five days is enough for this route. You can add a day, too: it is a private tour, so you could spend another day in Zhangjiajie, for example at the Grand Canyon Glass Bridge, or stay a second night in Fenghuang. Extra days are quoted separately.
Can older travellers join?
Yes. Tell us when you book, and we plan fewer steps at Tianmen Mountain and in the Forest Park. Dehang village has stone paths, so it simply means walking a little more slowly there. The tour is not suitable for wheelchair users or travellers with limited mobility.
How many people can join?
Groups are 2 to 6 travellers, and it is always just your group, with your own guide and vehicle. For a larger group, ask us. The price per person depends on how many of you travel; for 2 to 4 travellers, message us on WhatsApp for your price.
How do we book and pay?
Send us your travel dates and your group size on WhatsApp. We first confirm the itinerary and the hotel rooms with you, and after that we send the payment details. For deposits, payment methods and cancellation, see how payment, deposits and cancellation work.
