Good news for travellers: as of July 2025 a brand-new high-speed railway directly links Chongqing and Zhangjiajie, making this one of the easiest connections of all.
By High-Speed Train (New & Recommended)
The new 502 km high-speed line opened on 1 July 2025, with around 20–30 bullet trains a day running between Chongqing and Zhangjiajie West Railway Station in just 2–3.5 hours (fares roughly US$38–128). Most departures leave from Chongqing East Railway Station, with others from Chongqing West, North and the airport station — a fast, comfortable and scenic ride.
By Air
Direct flights also operate on selected days between Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport (CKG) and Zhangjiajie Hehua Airport (DYG), taking about 1 hour. With the new bullet train, though, the train is now the more flexible everyday option.

Chongqing — famous for its fiery hotpot, dramatic river views and as a Yangtze cruise gateway — now pairs effortlessly with Zhangjiajie’s peaks thanks to the fast rail link. It’s an increasingly popular two-stop itinerary.
