Zhangjiajie On-the-Ground FAQ: Tickets, Queues, Passports

These are the questions we get most often once guests are already in Zhangjiajie. Every answer comes from our local team’s checks with the parks or from official pricing documents, and each carries the date it was last confirmed. Where the parks publish no reliable figure, we say so instead of guessing.

Tickets and booking

1. How long is the Forest Park ticket valid?

Four consecutive days, counted from the day you first enter the park, and the shuttle bus ticket is also four days of unlimited rides. (Pricing documents, checked 17 Aug 2026)

2. Do I need to book in advance?

Yes. When you buy, you choose a gate and an entry time slot. Two changes are allowed online. (17 Aug 2026)

3. Can I enter with my passport?

Yes. You scan your passport at the turnstile. (Confirmed with the park, 26 Sep 2026)

4. Do children get in free on a foreign passport?

Yes. Under 14 enter free on their own passport, and the shuttle bus is free for them too. (26 Sep 2026)

5. What do visitors aged 65 and over get free?

The entrance ticket. The shuttle bus is still half price, CNY 36 plus CNY 3 insurance. (17 Aug 2026)

6. What are Line A and Line B at the East Gate?

Line A goes up by the Tianzi Mountain cable car and down by the Bailong Elevator. Line B is the reverse. If you booked the wrong one, change it online in advance; at the gate there is often no capacity left. (26 Sep 2026)

7. How do I enter on day two?

Each day is booked separately. Changing at the gate works only if the slot still has capacity, so book each day ahead. (26 Sep 2026)

8. Can I buy a fast-track ticket?

The paid fast-track lanes are suspended at the moment, with no reopening date. We confirm the position before you travel. (26 Sep 2026)

Weather and operations

9. Do the cable cars stop in rain or fog?

No, unless the park issues a special notice. At Tianmen Mountain, ice, heavy fog or heavy rain means everyone is routed via Line C. (26 Sep 2026)

10. Is the Tianmen Mountain cable car running?

From 13 October 2026 the main cableway is not. You go up by Line C: the express cable car from the mountain gate, then the escalators through the mountain. Full details in our Tianmen Mountain cable car 2026 page. (30 Sep 2026)

11. How long does Tianmen Mountain take?

About 4 to 6 hours including queuing. For an afternoon train, plan on 6 hours and book a departure at 4 pm or later. (30 Sep 2026)

12. Is there a return ticket for the cable cars?

No. The park sells one-way tickets only; a return is two of them. (17 Aug 2026)

13. What time is the last bus or cable car?

The parks publish no reliable fixed time, and their own notices disagree with each other. Our local team confirms it on the day. Do not plan your descent around a time from a forum. (17 Aug 2026)

Practical

14. Is there luggage storage at the gates?

Yes, at every ticket station. (26 Sep 2026)

15. Can guides use loudspeakers?

No. Since 1 August 2026 portable loudspeakers are banned inside the park; guides use wireless earpieces. (Park notice, 17 Aug 2026)

What we deliberately leave out

Claims such as “the best time to enter is before 8 am”, “expect a three-hour queue at the Bailong Elevator” or “you can re-enter within an hour without a new booking” circulate widely, but none has an official source. We do not publish them.
