Travelling from Beijing to Zhangjiajie? You have two main options — a quick flight, or a scenic but long high-speed train ride.
By Air (Recommended)
Direct flights connect Beijing with Zhangjiajie Hehua International Airport (DYG) in around 3 hours, making flying by far the most time-efficient choice for this 1,200+ km journey. From the airport it’s only about a 10-minute drive to downtown Zhangjiajie.
By High-Speed Train
High-speed trains run from Beijing West Railway Station to Zhangjiajie West Railway Station in about 11 hours, with fares roughly 950–3,000 RMB depending on seat class. It’s comfortable and scenic, but because of the distance most travellers prefer to fly and keep a full extra day for sightseeing.
Our Recommendation
For a Beijing–Zhangjiajie trip we usually suggest flying, then spending your time among the mountains rather than on the rails. Many guests combine Beijing’s Great Wall and Forbidden City with Zhangjiajie’s peaks for a perfect first-time China itinerary.
